‘The Rift’ was amazing. It’s was fast-paced, riveting, had a kick-ass female lead, the tension at the end was spot on as I could feel my heartbeat rising and the narrative was compelling, astute and excellently plotted. It was a joy to read.

Helen is MOD but works in counter-intelligence and is presently in Paris to ensure the security of the PM and the French ambassador during a NATO summit at the Palace of Versailles. However, when a young Algerian native is kidnapped as he landed in Paris she is pulled onto the case by Interpol in Lyon. It's now her job to make sure that the boy is found!

I loved Helen! She is fiercely intelligent, instincts honed from military service, extremely well trained in investigative work but is also approachable, kind, determined and most importantly has empathy. I really hope that this is start of a new series for Rachel as I would be reading every single one of them. I haven't read of her Kelly Porter series but that is going to change!

The story was so plausible that it was scary. Now one of my favourite history is the signing of the Treaty of Versailles so I loved the setting and could visualise all the action. The pace of the book was terrific and built to a great ending. It has left me wanting more! Please tell me Rachel that more is coming.
