What Happened to Coco by V. B. Furlong
What Happened to Coco’ is an enticing, intriguing mystery of how a friendship group can implode when one of them disappears without a trace! It was an enthralling read which I devoured in one day. I loved how the POV rove round the friendship group so you were given snippets of information that made sure you were more hooked into the story and plot!
I don’t read a lot of young adults books but this is an area I wanted to read more of as I am wanting to develop that side of my bookshop. For some reason I was shocked by the amount of sex these guys were having! Then I remember about what I was like at age 18 and went ‘doh!’ Of course, they are having sex and immediately felt like a prude and very old! All I’m saying is I think I missed out not taking that boarding school scholarship I was offered 🤣
What was done extremely well in this book was the emphasis on the power of friendship and how good one’s can help to shape your life and how you view the world. Conrad seems like a guy I would love to call a best friend - loyal, putting his friend’s happiness above his own, willing to develop honest relationships etc. I was particularly touched when an emphasis was place on the grieving process and having to talk that out with your true friends. I wish I had that when my mum died. I think too many people try to ignore death after it happens when sometimes all you need to do is actually talk about the person and share memories.
There were quite a few twists and turns towards the end of the book - some of which I guessed but wow that final one! Did not see that coming at all - I would definitely read more if the author decided to write about this character further! I really liked this book - let me know if you pick it up and what you think!

When a girl disappears, long-buried secrets resurface…
Coco is missing. Her room’s a mess, and her phone is left behind in her dorm at Lainsbury Hall School
Ella, Coco’s childhood best friend, is desperate for her to return, although she knows that if she ever sees Coco again, there’ll be a lot of explaining to do.
Bea knows that her new group of friends attracts drama, and she thinks she has the last shred of common sense between them all. Only, if that was true, she would leave Genevieve, her toxic ex, well alone.
Conrad is confident that Coco will return safe and well. Only, the way his secrets are unravelling, he’s worried he won’t be when this is all over.
Harrison and Coco are the perfect couple. Everyone knows that. But looks can be misleading. Even the smartest boy in school can make a terrible mistake.
In order to navigate the web of secrets and lies that Coco leaves behind, her circle of friends needs to unravel a few of their own.
But the question remains: What happened to Coco?
