The Good Twin by Diane Saxon

Be careful what you wish for…

Mum passed recently. It was sudden and unexpected. On the cusp of adulthood, my twin sister, Skye and I are left with decisions to make that will change our lives forever.

As identical twins, we’d normally stick together like glue, but anger and grief gets the better of us and we push and pull in different directions.

Skye wants us to desert our broken family for university. Whilst I want us to postpone our university entry and huddle together at home with our grief-stricken dad and our younger sister, Jade and try to heal our broken hearts and learn to live without our mother.

At an impasse, each of us stubbornly gets our wish.
Finding myself alone and without the other half of me, I’m desperately lonely.

I need a friend.
Someone to talk to.
Someone who understands.
But, when I find that special someone, I know I’ve made a terrible mistake and trusted the wrong person

Diane Saxon’s compelling new thriller will have you questioning who you can trust to keep your family safe.

Review

‘The Good Twin’ is a chilling thriller that I devoured in a few sittings. Somehow this was my first Diane Saxon book, despite me following her and her daily prompt to do Wordle! I can tell that this won't be my last one however as I was seriously impressed with ‘The Good Twin’!

It focuses on twins Skye and Summer who are both floundering after the recent death of their mother. About to leave home for university Summer wants to defer for a year to heal but Skye decides she is leaving. Summer ends up very isolated, despite living with her dad and younger sister Jade. So when she makes friends with a local boy over the internet she becomes obsessive in a way about him, leading to her being abducted. Flash forward to the present day and the twins dad is getting married and Summer answers the phone and is told that Skye is still alive but captured. Everyone else thinks it's a prank call but Summer isn't so sure.

The emotions in this book radiated off the page and reading it was emotional as it was packed full of tension, heightened states and horrible situations. I thought the author made a fantastic job with Skye’s character, she felt very authentic and you feel heartsore for her. The psychological impact of her imprisonment was on point and it was clear the author had done her research.

This was a very dark and gritty thriller, extremely well written, terrifically paced and with great characterisation. It was an emotional read, full of great reveals and a brilliant conclusion!

Let me know if you pick this one up.
