‘Lights Out’ is a high octave thriller set deep in the intelligence community of Washington D.C, that teems with action right from the get-go! It certainly held my attention and I raced through it one day. I found it to be compelling and engaging to read and I loved how even though there was a lot of technical information it was accessible enough for readers to understand! I am not normally one to read romance books but I found Brynn and Jack’s story to be entertaining and believable and it layered excellently with the thriller aspects of the books.
Brynn, a CIA agent, has arranged a conference in Washington that brings international spy communities from around the world together in a joint effort to target terrorism. But when one of the Egyptian agents goes missing it is Brynn’s job to find him, otherwise, her career and maybe the American population is at risk. Brynn is asked to team up with an outside agency SNAP to locate the missing man, Remon Riad, but when she walks into the offices she is confronted with her ex Jack Hudson! Will they be able to work together to find Remon or will their history get in the way?
I was fascinated with Brynn and mainly her family background and her reasons for wanting a career in the CIA. As a general rule, I don't think most people stop to think about how people cope years down the line from a terrorist attack. I actually have a friend who was in New York during 9/11 and it was seeing her emotions and experiences years afterwards that makes me think it should be discussed more. Therefore, I was glad to see that this was a theme in the book and made it seem more realistic to me as a reader.
This was a highly entertaining read and I will be looking out for more from this author and especially of this series!
