Eyes of Glass by Gemma Metcalfe and Joe Cawley

Think you know Thrillers?
Think you have read it all?
Well think again because this is like no other thriller you have read before and will leave you questioning EVERYTHING

Who will read my words?
Who will know my truth?

When Lyra Thomas finds a bottle on a Galway beach containing a poem from America, she’s elated. As an author living by the sea, she always dreamt of finding a message from a distant prince or a swashbuckling saviour.

But this is NO fairy tale.

Lyra learns in a phone call that the sender, Dee Warren, a wife and mother, committed suicide one week after the bottle set sail.
After losing her own mother to suicide, Lyra quickly bonds with Dee’s teenage daughter, Chloe, and is invited to America to meet her.

At the Warren’s beachfront mansion, it soon becomes apparent that beneath the glossy surface of success and local standing, there’s more to this welcoming family, than meets the eye…

Review

‘Eyes of Glass’ is an engaging thriller that delivers a high-octane ending! The authors are both new to me but I will keep my eyes opened for what ever they do next as this was an enjoyable read. I always wonder about the writing process when it is two or more authors collaborating on a book. Do they write alternating chapters etc? Anyway my point is that this seemed as if it was one voice all the way through. There were no differing tones at all which is very impressive!

When Lyra Thomas finds a message in a bottle on a Galway beach containing a poem from America she is ecstatic! She has always dreaming about finding a message but this is no dairy tale. Lyra learns in a phone call that the sender Dee Williams committed suicide not longer after she sent the bottle. After losing her own mother to suicide, Lyra quickly bonds with Dee’s teenage daughter Chloe. Lyra is invited to America to stay with the family and at their beachfront mansion it soon becomes clear that not everything is as it seems.

Did this book at times seem unbelievable? Yes. Did it distract from it being an entertaining read? No! It really gave me vibes of the TV show ‘Revenge’ with its beach side setting and lies and secrets! And I loved that programme so I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was fast-paced and packed full of tension and I flew through it in a couple of sittings! I thought Lyra’s character was cleverly constructed and I thought her backstory was a strong concept!

Let me know if you pick this one up!
