Review
‘Call Her Janie’ is a romantic thriller and I was hooked from the start! I will be honest and I don’t really read a lot of romance but it’s a genre I am trying out more this year! This book was the perfect blend of romance with a mystery to boot! It is high on the spice thermometer but I think that’s why I loved it! As I was reading this book I kept thinking of the show ‘Virgin Rivers’ on Netflix and how this felt like it. I could definitely see this being filmed and people loving it!
Lizzie Levine is at the top of her game, an executive in an ace New York marketing firm! She doesn’t let anything stand in her way to getting to the top. But when she arrives in Southport, North Carolina, to reconnect with her brother Randy she is a shadow of her old self. She begins to work in a small bookshop and meets hottie Josh one day in the local market. As Lizzie begins to heal and rebuild her life she soon realises that her past is catching up with her and she needs to face it head on!
I really liked Lizzie and her family and friends. It really did evoke small town American - even Lizzie thinks it resembles Star Hollow from the Gilmore Girls. It’s a place, more of a sense really that I would like to visit! Lizzie was a strong protagonist and I loved her story, albeit is very sad and challenging in places. It was a well written narrative that kept me captivated the whole way through. There are many twist and turns to keep the mystery reader engaged and I loved seeing that being revealed as the story unfolded.
Let me know if you pick this one up!
