Review

‘Blackthorn Wood’ is a powerful look into how bullying can derail a person and affect every aspect of their lives. This is the first book I have read by the author but it won't be the last as even though the topic really affected me it was an excellent read!

‘Blackthorn Wood’ is an authentic portrayal of agoraphobia and I say that as someone who suffered from it. It's terrifying to leave your sanctuary and you do feel as if your house is pulling you back in. It's the anxiety that surrounds it that also knocks a person and the author got this spot on. The author highlights something else that should also be talked about more - adult bullying. Again I can attest to how this feels and again the author has got it spot on. It's the feeling of loneliness and feeling crazy that gets you the most. The thought of walking into that environment every day. I can still link my imposter syndrome to this experience. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that the author does a sterling job of putting these topics across!

I really liked Cassie and especially Freddie! I wish Freddie could have been my therapist. Cassie was such a strong character and loved getting to know her. This is definitely a slow burn of a novel but I think it was needed as it reflected how Cassie was being treated over time. This is an excellent read which I recommend to everyone!

Let me know if you pick it up!
